Physical Examinations

Prevention is the key to keeping your pet healthy.  Cowtown Animal Hospital recommends all pets undergo a comprehensive physical examination at least once a year. During an exam, Dr. Cook will examine your pet from nose to tail/inside and out. We evaluate your pet’s hearing and vision, listen to his or her heart and lungs, evaluate his or her joints, perform a blood test to check for heartworms and a fecal test to check for internal parasites. We will also examine your pet’s teeth and oral cavity, look for any unusual lumps or cysts and test his or her joints and muscles for arthritis and swelling.

Your pet benefits from a complete wellness exam in many ways.  The information we collect during an exam allows us to diagnose potential health problems and solve them before they become too difficult and expensive to treat.

Your pet’s wellness exam also helps us establish an overall picture of your pet’s health. If your pet has a medical emergency or requires urgent care, this information allows us to treat your pet quickly and effectively. Regular exams also help us establish a relationship with you and your pet. We encourage you to talk to us about any changes in your pet’s behavior or lifestyle or ask questions about your pet’s health care. The more we know about your pet, the better health care we can provide!

We welcome you to discuss with us any concerns you may have about your pet. We believe that working closely with clients results in better health and quality of life for every pet.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are the cornerstone of your pet’s preventive health care plan. Many diseases, that were once fatal to pets, can now easily be prevented through the use of vaccinations.

Cowtown Animal Hospital recommends that puppies be given a series of vaccinations beginning at six weeks of age to prevent various illness.

Yearly vaccines are recommended for all pets after they have received their initial series of puppy vaccinations.

Parasite PreventiOn

Parasites can harm both your pet and your family. External parasites, such as fleas and ticks, and internal parasites, such as roundworms and hookworms can be transmitted between humans and animals. The best way to treat parasites is to stop them before they can affect your pet.

Cowtown Animal Hospital provides complete parasite prevention care and treatment for your pet. Our diagnostic laboratory is capable of processing a wide variety of clinical tests that can detect the presence of parasites, including roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, and heartworms. We also educate you on how to keep your pet – and your family – safe from parasites.

In-House Laboratory and Radiography

Cowtown Animal Hospital provides various in-house laboratory testing that may be required for complete diagnosis of your pet’s illness. We also have x-ray equipment available for use during an examination.
